Vicky's analysis:
The film '3' (moonu) is the debut film for Aishwarya R. Dhanush. Also that movie shows, that it was by a debut. '3' is in the genre of Romantic thriller, where first half is romantic and second half was tried to be a thriller. This story is about a two couple who started loving even from their school days and got married, and abviously the problem comes. The movie begin with the funeral of Ram (dhanush) and then the flash back starts from Janani's (Shruthi hasan's) point of view. In that flash back the school love story starts. That consists of similar love scenes which we are seeing for the past many years, even from gemini ganesan's 'kalyana parisu'. Only satisfaction in first half is siva karthikeyan's comedy, that too ends in first half. From the second half the movie takes a difference genre, i.e thriller, where the movie is from Senthil's (Sunder Ramu, friend of dhanush who was also did the friend role in mayakkam enna) point of view.In that second half the problems of Dhanush was explained by senthil and then how Ram (Dhanush) died is the climax.
As for as acting is concerned Dhanush acted nicely, asusual. He again proved himself as a good actor. But some expressions are similar to that of 'mayakkam enna'. Shruthi hasan acted well in a scene where she is crying outside a temple. And seeing that repeatatively through out the movie makes boring. Others characters like Prabhu (Ram's Father), Banupriya (Ram's mother), Rohini (Janani's mother), Sunder, siva karthikeyan ,etc did their role satisfactory.
A film in a genre like this should have a perfect cinematography. Here it doesnot provide the feel. Velraj is the cinematographer, who created wonderful frames in 'Audukalam' failed here.
Songs are nice. Because of the expectation, the heap created by "kolaveri" is not satisfied visually.Back ground score by little boy anirudh misses something because it doesnot create tears in the emotional scenes, especially in the climax. The BGM in the car parking fight scene is excellent.
The screen play of the movie has some problems. Especially in second half, his friend is narrating a scene where he himself not present at that time. And if some scenes in second half are shown from shruthi's point of view in first half then it might have created curiosity in the whole movie. The scene where shruthi hasan's sister starts speaking is nice but that too not provide a very good impact because, before that they did not create any feel of pity or sympathy on her sister. Similarly in that Dog scene also, they didnot show any scenes that how she liked the dog. They also failed to create the doubtfulness on others about Ram's (Dhanush) murder so that the climax twist is not useful in making screenplay good. Also their marriage was happened in the disco bar. It is a bold attempt saying "Marriage can happen anywhere but after that how they are living matters". But there are somethings like tradition and culture.
Anyway good attempt by Aishwariya Dhanush for choosing this genre, one of the rare female directors and if she concentrates on camera angles's and BGM's of the movie it will be very nice.
Vicky's plus:
Dhanush acting.
Siva karthikeyan's first half comedy.

BGM.
